Hello everyone, after two months of work I´ve finally completed my dominoanimation with 3700 dominoes

I´ve animated the whole thing with Blender and I think it looks quite nice.

Here´s the link:

You can leave there a comment if you want or you can commend on it in this thread, constructive criticism or opinions are appreciated

First of all: looks awesome.

Some criticism though:
• the camera often is a bit too near to the dominoes.
• sometimes, it feels like they fall down too slowly.

@user ohaz: The first part is a bit near I know, but I think it´s also more dynamic

It´s not easy to controll such a huge physical simulation always perfect, so there can be some errors. You can call it planned slow motion

Thank you very much for your comment

@user useigor: One week every day 24 hours
3:20 is a lot of rendering work for a single pc. And it´s full HD.

I´ve combined different shaders to get "improved" colours for my dominoes

I liked the music and although, as per previous posts, the camera seemed a bit dodgy in some places and there were a few occasions where the dominoes seemed to fall slowly ( probably nothing you could have done about this ), I liked the animation quite a bit. If you do this again, try and make the entirety into some form of recognisable pattern, if you get what I'm saying.

I agree with both of you, some points of the camera paths are a bit near, but in general it´s no problem for me.

@user DannyDeth: I´ll definitly not render this again and I probably won´t make another domino animation, but your advice is helpful for many kinds of animation
Do you mean with "recognisable pattern" a better synchronisation between the animation and the music?

I would also like to see a more familiar pattern, I think there is one that a tree blossoming in the video? In any case, this should be spread out more so the entire domino effect would create a large image/pattern.

Haha, no, I meant when you panned out at the end of the animation, the fallen dominoes could make some kind of "global" shape.

What the hell, did you use Pentium 4 with ATI Radeon 9200 to render this ?

LOL. It's 1080p.
1.) If 1 sec = 24 frames and 3:30 = 210 sec then there 5040 frames.
2.) "1 week, every day, 24 hours" therefore 7*24*60 mins = 10080 mins.
3.) mins/frame = 10080/5040 = 2 mins/frame
For this size and render i think that's ok.

I used the Geforce GTX 460.

@user useigor: Some parts were rendered a bit longer (e.g. the part with the glass "sculpture"), most frames were rendered between 3:00 and 3:10 minutes

And I´ve rendered 270 frames with smoke, it wasn´t a long rendering time but it needed about 2 hours for it.
I´ve rendered the smoke with the internal renderer and combined the two animations in the compositor (the smoke had an alpha channel )
