Talking about Opera extensions - if I have any time, I'll add a button which opens a menu where you can turn it on/off and change background to custom one. About Firefox, you gave me a simple compiler - are there any good instructions? Like how to integrate a button into Firefox bar, how extensions are packed, stuff like that. I searched but could not find anything - Opera seems to be more friendly to developers

This could get you started on how XUL work.
Next Generation Media has written
Overlay Basics
Mozilla's user interface is written primarily in XUL and JavaScript. The innovative feature that XUL provides that makes extensions work is "overlays". A XUL overlay allows adding new UI elements into an existing XUL window without having to modify the original's code.

It's essentially the same as Opera's way of writing extensions but with some slight differences.

If I were you I would use the JQuery approach on writing this extension as it simplifies things.

I don't think it's hard to make a .crx file for it, and it's now so easy to manually install Chrome extensions outside of the app store (you just drag a drop the CRX file to Chrome and it's installed).
I tried downloading the Opera extension, renaming it to .crx and installing on Chrome, but that didn't work, so I'm asking if someone could convert this extension properly for Chrome.

Anyway, i like it!
How to install?

*facepalm* Have you at least read the whole thread...?

I'm already converting it for new Opera. Don't know about Chrome though.
You mean Opera Next? Because apparently you can easily convert Opera Next addons to Chrome and vice-versa.

--- Edit ---
I decided today to transition from Chrome to Opera Next, and I don't regret it, love this browser! But I can't use this
